Gummy Journal Privacy Policy
Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE]
Gummy Journal is made by CUBIC CIRCLE LLC (“we”).
The short version
Gummy Journal is a mood journal app. Your entries stay on your iPhone; they are in an iCloud backup only if you turned on iCloud Backup. There is no sign-in, and we do not receive your entries. The current version has no AI features. The app has no analytics, no ads, and no tracking of any kind.
This policy describes Gummy Journal as it works today. If a later version works differently, we will change this policy in the same release. Before Gummy Journal uses your entries in a new way, the app will ask you first.
What Gummy Journal stores on your iPhone
When you use Gummy Journal, the app stores these things in its own storage on your iPhone:
- Your entries: your feelings and their intensity, your text, and the date, the time, and the time zone of each entry.
- Your photos. Gummy Journal copies each photo that you add into its own storage. It does not change your photo library and does not add to it. A copy holds the data that is inside the photo file, which can include where and when the photo was taken.
- Your voice recordings. Gummy Journal stores the sound. It does not turn it into text.
- People: the name that you type, and a picture if you set one.
- Places: the name, and Apple’s ID of the place if you picked it from Apple Maps. Gummy Journal does not store coordinates.
- App settings: the language, and the date you first used Gummy Journal.
None of this is sent to us or to another company.
What leaves your iPhone
Only these things, and only when you do them:
- Place search. What you type in the place search goes to Apple Maps. If you allowed location access, your location also goes to Apple, so that the results and the “near you” list fit where you are. Gummy Journal does not store your location. Apple handles this data under Apple’s privacy policy. You can leave location access off; search by text still works.
- Export entries. Gummy Journal makes one zip file with your entries, photos, recordings, and person pictures, and opens the iOS share sheet. The file goes only where you send it. Gummy Journal deletes its own copy of the file when the share sheet closes.
- iPhone backup. If you turned on iCloud Backup, or you back up your iPhone to a computer, your Gummy Journal data is part of that backup. The backup belongs to your Apple account or your computer. We cannot read it.
- Photos in iCloud. If a photo that you add is stored in iCloud Photos, iOS downloads it from your own iCloud account.
- Get help now. This screen opens the Phone or the Messages app. Gummy Journal keeps no record that you used it.
- Send feedback. This row in Settings opens a new email to us in your mail app. Gummy Journal adds one line with the app version and the iOS version. The email holds nothing from your entries unless you write it there. It goes only if you send it.
- Share test stats (test versions only). This screen shows a summary of your test: the dates of your first and last entry, the number of entries, the number of days with an entry, and how many entries have 1, 2, 3, or 4 or more feelings, a changed intensity, text, a photo, a place, people, or a recording. It also holds the app version and the iOS version. It holds no entry text, photos, recordings, places, people, or feeling names. You see each number before you send it. It goes only where you send it, by email to us or with the iOS share sheet.
- Contact support. If Gummy Journal cannot open its storage, the error screen has a button that opens a new email to us. Gummy Journal adds the app version, the iOS version, and the type of the error. The email holds nothing from your entries. It goes only if you send it.
Access that Gummy Journal asks for
Gummy Journal asks for each access when you first use the feature, or when you tap its row in Settings. You can change each one in iOS Settings.
- Photos: to show your library so that you can pick photos for an entry or a person.
- Camera: to take a photo for an entry or a person.
- Microphone: to record your voice in an entry.
- Location: to show places near you. It is used only while you use the place search.
Your controls
- Export entries (Settings) gives you a copy of everything you put in.
- Delete all data (Settings) deletes every entry, photo, recording, person, and place from Gummy Journal on this iPhone, and also unsaved entries. It cannot be undone. Your language setting stays.
- Delete one entry. Gummy Journal deletes the entry from this iPhone, with its photos and recordings, unless another entry uses them. It cannot be undone.
- Delete a person or a place. Gummy Journal deletes the name, and the picture of a person, from this iPhone.
- Delete the app. This removes all Gummy Journal data from the iPhone.
- An iPhone backup that you made earlier can still hold your Gummy Journal data. You manage your backups in iOS Settings.
How your data is protected
Gummy Journal uses the protection of iOS. When your iPhone has a passcode, iOS encrypts the files of Gummy Journal on the phone. Gummy Journal does not add encryption of its own, and it has no lock of its own: a person who can unlock your iPhone can open Gummy Journal.
What Apple gives us
Gummy Journal sends us nothing. Apple gives app makers some numbers:
- App Store: the number of downloads, and crash reports and use numbers from people who agreed in iOS Settings to share them with app developers.
- TestFlight (test versions only): crash reports, the number of sessions, the iPhone model and iOS version, the email address you were invited with, and feedback or screenshots that you choose to send.
None of these hold your entries.
The beta sign-up form (test rounds only)
If you sign up for a test round on our website, you give us your email address, your answers to a few questions (for example how you track your mood today), how you found us, and a note if you write one. We use them only to choose testers, to send you the TestFlight invite, to write to you during the test, and to learn which places bring testers to us.
The form is our own. It loads no script from another company. Your answers are stored in our database at Cloudflare, the company that hosts this website. To invite you, we enter your email address in Apple’s TestFlight.
If you want, you can also talk to us in our tester group on Discord. It is optional. Discord’s privacy policy applies there.
We keep your answers and your email address while the test runs. We delete them within 30 days after the test ends, or after you leave the test. To have them deleted sooner, write to ke@qbko.work.
This website
Our website is hosted by Cloudflare, which keeps its own server logs. We count how many times the home page and the beta page are opened, how many times a form is started, and how many times it is sent. For the beta page, we also note if you came to it from our home page. We use no cookies, and the counts are not connected to you. To stop spam, Cloudflare limits how many forms one internet address can send in a short time. We do not store the address.
We do not sell or share your data
We do not have your entries, so we cannot sell them, share them, or use them for ads. Gummy Journal has no advertising and no tracking across apps or websites.
Age
Gummy Journal is for people who are 18 or older.
Changes to this policy
When Gummy Journal changes, this policy changes in the same release, and the date at the top changes. If a change lets Gummy Journal use your entries in a new way, the app asks you first.
